Imagine a whole story

Have you ever imagined a whole story when meeting strangers in the street? Their looks, their silhouettes, their behavior or their postures seem so familiar to you. You can't help but imagine their worlds, their living spaces, their relationships and their passions, where they come from and where they are going. Like an irresistible desire to imagine their worlds based on elements that appeal to you and that remind you of situations, memories or stories already experienced.

Sometimes simply an object, a gesture belonging to these people leads you to create or embroider an itinerary or a walk, as if to establish an imaginary connection or an unreal emotion. It's disturbing at times, because a simple gesture or dress can trigger this perception and take over the virtual journey of these strangers, these couples or these groups.

You are not alone in feeling this, because the symbols of your daily life are an integral part of the signals linked to your respective universes, through social codes which mark your paths and create clan universes. Whether through a product, a brand, a hobby or even a social identity, these symbols are linked to your own identity references.

Your daily life is constantly alert at this level, undoubtedly linked to your activity which has occupied your days for many years, during which your role consisted of listening to the people in front of you and adapting their living or working spaces so that the projects correspond to their lifestyles, leisure and work. This universe allowed you to perceive numerous situations, to analyze and articulate lifestyles in relation to places, sometimes by deprogramming initial intentions to better respond to the itineraries described.

This fascinating and intimate work allows us to extract the brilliance of numerous observations that could be attributed to the banal, demonstrating that the succession of these moments delivers imaginary stories full of resources. This melancholy of the moment often gives way to a cheerful score.

This imaginary journey can also often take shape from the vision of a setting, a dedicated space or even a singular composition of objects, reflecting a furtive presence or the introduction of a special activity. When you mention this, two works come to mind, produced recently: "In the park", with the presence of an accomplice couple chatting on a public bench in a park, the convalescing woman leaning on the bust of her companion, delivering uninterruptedly his emotions linked to his resumption of activities. There is also “Tuxedo and Leopard”, presenting the anecdotal space of an entrance hall dotted with women's shoes, where the seat with its singular design resonates with a pair of ballerinas with leopard patterns, the latest book by Wendy Delorme, “The Body is a Chimera”, taking its place on the console.

In the first case, the story of this couple occupied part of your thoughts, sitting on the bench in front of you while you made the preparatory sketch. In the other, you imagined the owner's embarrassment in choosing the shoe that best suited her current mood. This way of letting oneself be invaded by an atmosphere or a posture makes it possible to script everyday life with multiple facets, each more starry than the other. The intimate and figurative nature of these itineraries brings an offbeat and respectful dimension, sublimating a contemporary and refined environment to bring warmth and timelessness.

Appropriate the image, caress the story and take part in an imaginary stroll, like a child discovering the winding paths of a controlled unconsciousness. Click here to discover this work (titled Smoking and Leopard)! You might be surprised.

Alain Rouschmeyer

Alain Rouschmeyer is best known for his acrylic paintings on medium format canvas and his contemporary ink drawings. An observer of everyday life, he analyzes the human walk through the postures and spaces crossed, as if to probe the banal and capture its scent. His artistic itinerary invites him to work on architecture in which he likes to reflect on living spaces and the transversalities that define their uses. Like a poet-analyst, Alain Rouschmeyer's work navigates between reality and intimacy revealing attachment and detachment according to a conscious will. It explores the hidden dimension of everyday life which never ceases to challenge us like jazz music or warm blues. The romanticism of which he fully assumes the contemporary and timeless translation inhabits the support as an involved space.
