“The girl in blue”
When the sketch becomes a painting
Summer conjures up images of warmth, freedom and peaceful moments in nature. It is precisely this atmosphere that my latest painting captures, entitled “THE GIRL IN BLUE”, a work of art born from a simple pencil sketch inspired by the recurring journey of a young woman dressed in a blue dress.
From pencil to brush: the creative process
I first sketched the scene in graphite, capturing the essential contours and details. This crucial step allowed us to lay the foundations of the composition and capture the essence of the moment. Back at the workshop, I reproduced the sketch made on a 70 x 70 canvas using the grid process. I then, using light and furtive touches, gradually colored the scene like the one that had remained in my memory, mainly working on the shadows and lights, particularly on the foliage of the trees.
An idyllic summer scene
The work depicts a young woman walking towards her favorite swimming spot on a beautiful summer day. I wanted to highlight the key elements of this painting:
The protagonist: dressed in a short blue dress, barefoot in white canvas shoes
The setting: a winding path crossing a meadow dotted with wildflowers
The focal point: two large trees near the lake, providing shade and a natural setting
The ambiance: an atmosphere of freedom and grace, captured by the woman's supple gait
Artistic techniques and style
I wanted to convey a strong and unique atmosphere, while retaining the spirit of the initial sketch through its composition on the canvas and the balance of the color zones. The unique subject of this work of art imposed on me the rhythm of the brush and its sketched rendering. This work combines several artistic elements to translate this very particular and at the same time banal atmosphere:
Pencil drawing: the basis of the work, providing precision and detail
Painting: adding color and texture to the sketched scene
Play of light and shadow: creating depth and atmosphere
Balanced composition: guiding the viewer's eye through the scene
The art of visual storytelling
What makes this work particularly captivating is its ability to tell a story. It invites the viewer to imagine not only this precise moment, but also what could happen before and after. This visual storytelling creates an emotional connection with the work.
An ode to summer and freedom
This painting, born from a simple pencil sketch, is much more than a simple representation of a summer scene. It is a celebration of freedom, nature and the little pleasures of life. It reminds us of the beauty of simple moments and the joy that a leisurely walk to a loved place can bring. By combining pencil drawing and painting techniques, I wanted to create a work that speaks to our senses and our emotions, inviting us to immerse ourselves in this idyllic scene and feel, if only for a moment , the warmth of the sun and the promise of a refreshing dip .
A work of art that evokes the journey
This work refers to the daily itinerary of a young woman who engages in a regular summer activity. His journey is dictated by habit and routine. The mind undoubtedly invaded by diverse and varied thoughts but its path remains unchanged with a rhythm and a cadence that she herself has integrated like a habit such that her route could be superimposed without presenting the slightest itinerary failure, like a virtual gallery in which she takes her place whenever her choice concerns her daily activity.
In my artistic work I wanted to represent this virtuality of the gallery through this green rectangle which faces this young woman.
